František Matoušek: de Nimes

The catalog for the exhibition of the same name introduces the theme of memory in the work of František Matoušek. An author who developed a special technique of painting on denim, i.e. on a cotton fabric called denim. The publications shed light on how the choice of this material refers in Matoušek's work to the recent era of so-called real socialism, when the author grew up and when denim symbolized the desire for a freer life. The texts by Jaroslav Anděl and Jan H. Vitvar also deal with Matoušk's specific approach to the individual genres he works with – portraits, landscapes, urban exteriors or intimate interior scenes from family life.
