Perhaps no other place represents the artistic boho of the last century better than the Chelsea Hotel in New York. Many important painters, filmmakers, writers, composers, musicians, dancers and actors lived here and a number of important works were created here. The publication was published in 2010 to accompany the exhibition Chelsea Hotel: Phantoms of Bohemia and the related photography project Julie Calfee: Chelsea Hotel from within. The exhibition project focused on three key authors associated with this legendary place - Harry Smith, Andy Warhol and Robert Mapplethorpe - and highlighted the essential importance of bohemia for modern culture and questions about its meaning in an age when there is talk of the demise of bohemia. Texts for the publication were written by: Jaroslav Anděl, Victor Bockris, Jonas Mekas and Sherill Tippins.

Published on the occasion of the Ghosts of Bohemia exhibition at the Center for Contemporary Art DOX (2010).
