Hynek Martinec: Cyberlemon

The catalogue for the exhibition Cyberlemon presents the latest work of Hynek Martinec, a Czech painter living in London. Featuring new works first presented at the DOX Centre for Contemporary Art in 2025, the exhibition reflects on today's polarised and accelerated reality and the theme of modern technology, doing so through symbols and references to ancient sculpture, among other means.

The bilingual publication includes texts by curator Ben Tufnell and editor Michaela Šilpochová as well as an extensive interview revealing the artist's inspirations, creative process, and personal reflections. The catalogue contains a series of Martinec's dream drawings as well as documentation of his monumental drawing Atlas, which he created over the course of three weeks directly on the top floor of the gallery.

This site-specific wall drawing is an allegorical reflection on the contemporary world in which references to ancient mythology intertwine with modern technology and social upheaval. Atlas thus visually and symbolically connects the past with the present and is a key element of the exhibition, highlighting Martinec's ability to respond to current issues through art.
