This exclusive overview of Stefan Milkov's art from the 1980s to the present offers readers a view of his sculptural work and large-scale abstract paintings, which he has been working on intensively for the last ten years.
This book is linked to the exhibition of the same name at DOX Centre for Contemporary Art, but its scope exceeds it. It includes an extensive interview between the artist and curator Leoš Válka, in which Stefan Milkov reveals his artistic formation, family roots, cultural influences, talks about his studies during the totalitarian era and reflects on more general topics such as commitment, the relationship between art and the market, and the development of artificial intelligence. A deep reflection of the artist's work is presented in an essay by sculptor and former artistic colleague Jaroslav Róna, who together with Milkov helped found the artistic group Tvrdohlaví (1987–2001).
The book reflects Milkov's artistic evolution as well as the various positions of his work, from his engagement with mythical symbols and biblical stories to his interest in technological elegance pointing to the machine age.
