The plot of another novel by the winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature takes place in Turkey in the 1970s.
In the spring of 1975, Kemal, the thirty-year-old son of a wealthy Istanbul family, is about to get engaged to Sibel and live a carefree life. However, just before the engagement, he meets the young Füsun, his distant relative, and she becomes his fateful love. Nevertheless, he becomes engaged to Sibel. He realizes his tragic mistake too late: a dejected Füsun leaves him and Kemal's world collapses. In order to survive, he creates a private "museum of innocence", which he obsessively fills for years with hundreds of objects documenting his relationship with Füsun - exhibits as imbued with painful memories of lost love as with the endless melancholy of Istanbul.
