What is a "disability"? And what is "normal"? In 2013, the DOX Center sought answers to this question through the exhibition Affected by Normality, which was created in cooperation with the Jedličk Institute and schools. The project tried to reveal and problematize the concepts of normality and disability in the way that ideas about them affect the lives of each of us - they limit us or, on the contrary, they favor us.

The catalog looks back at the exhibited works of art by domestic and foreign authors created through various media and techniques, which represented not only significant help for various types of disabilities, but also disrupted established ideas about the normality of the body and intellect. The work of artists with disabilities and those who work in communities of people with disabilities and in the context of the so-called crip culture was represented. The opening thoughts were written by Jaroslav Anděl.

Issued on the occasion of the exhibition Affected by Normality at the Center for Contemporary Art DOX 23 May – 16 September 2013.
