Orhan Pamuk: Silent House (CS)

It is July 1980 and another military coup is slowly approaching in Turkey. As they do every year, four siblings come to a seaside resort near Istanbul to visit their ninety-year-old grandmother. While the tension between nationalists and left-wing female militants continues to rise outside, the grandmother's "quiet house" reveals suppressed family secrets and fateful life stories unfold there.

The novel, decorated with domestic and foreign prizes, is both a brilliant family drama and a drama of the entire country, in which communication between political groups, social classes and generations is eerily silent.
