Josef Bolf: Melancholy of the Outer Limits
The catalogue for Josef Bolf's exhibition Melancholy of the Outer Limits presents for the first time an extensive collection of smaller-format paintings created by the artist over the past ten years. Although the works were not created as a collection, they nevertheless enter into a common dialogue and create a unique universe.
"In a relatively small space, unknown worlds permeate and galactic explosions take place, as dimensional gates shatter into gushing tears. Bolf's new paintings are not only a testimony to his own struggle, but also a reflection of the contemporary world and its chaotic nature. The latest works combine elements of dystopian landscapes with intimate portraits," says curator, editor and author of the expert study Otto M. Urban.
He decided to use this side in the creation of the catalogue when, together with the artist, he created the character of Antoni Mikolas Bott, who was tasked with writing a spooky story in the spirit of A. C. Doyle or H. P. Lovecraft using keywords. This, together with a professional study, is part of the catalogue. The impressive visual side of the publication is the work of renowned graphic artist Robert V. Novák, who also participated in the preparation of the exhibition.
