The first monograph of the sculptor Maria Bartuszová presents the work of the artist, which is discovered and evaluated in an international context. The upcoming exhibition of the author at Tate Modern in London in 2022 is also expected.

Maria Bartuszová (1936 – 1996) was born in Prague in what was then Czechoslovakia, studied at the ceramics and porcelain studio at the Technical University of Applied Sciences, but lived most of her life in Košice. The monograph in four chronologically divided chapters provides a comprehensive overview of his sculptural work, author's techniques and methods, themes and ideas that were unknown for a long time. The book also includes essays by important foreign authors.

The peculiarity of Maria Bartuszová's approach is the concentration on the intimate experience of art, which perceives the creativity of nature and is connected to the principles of the functioning of the universe. Knowledge from the natural sciences, combined with a holistic approach, but also the ability of intuitive guidance or play as a creative imaginative activity, was used as a conceptual method when experimenting with materials and craft possibilities of sculpture. Her morphological thinking was looking for shape perfection and haptic appeal, which encourages a person to touch - to get closer and experience intimately, based on bodily and mental experience. He radiates fascination with life, but also humility towards it, both of which are the driving force behind his creation.
