After opening the red box, Petr Sís finds a diary that his father wrote when he was lost in Tibet in the mid-1950s.
He turns the fragile pages described in faded writing, complemented by pretty drawings, examines the small treasures hidden in the diary, and without thanks sets out on a journey to a distant land. Little by little, he reveals the secrets of his father's more than two-year journey, including his meeting with the then eighteen-year-old Dalai Lama. At the same time, he remembers the little boy who longed for his dad to come back to him, and he remembers the fantastic stories he himself told him after his return - stories that sounded more like a fairy tale than real life.
