The work of Věra Nováková (born 1928 in Prague) belongs to the most unique manifestations of realism in Czech art of the second half of the twentieth century. Together with her husband and creative companion Pavel Brázda, she represents a solitary figure who cannot simply be classified as one of the common tendencies of the Czech art scene of recent decades. Her creative statement has a strong value for Czech culture not only in its stylistic originality, but mainly in its humanistic and spiritual conviction.
The monograph contains the author's entire creative career to date, from the end of the 1940s, when she was expelled from the Academy of Fine Arts for political reasons, to the present day. Based on a chronological sequence of color reproductions and materials from Věra Nováková's personal archive, the entire developmental complexity of her work is documented, which is definitely not a closed historical chapter - it is still developing and finds a significant response among today's young generation.
